Yoga by Cameron Pickford
My name is Cameron Pickford, I'm 33. Since the age of 14 I have been developing myself as a musician. After many years of practicing Drums (8-10hrs a day), guitar, weight lifting (2 hrs, 4 days a week) and working (3 days a week). At the age of 24 I had to stop all of it (except working) as I had developed so many injury's in my spine, hips, hands and shoulders it was just to painful to keep going. I spent the next seven years doing everything from chiropractic, physio therapy, remedial massage, reikei, supplements, nutrition and other types of yoga. I even tried self development programmes to think myself healthier. None of it worked.
Until Wednesday 29 September 2010 I walked into my first Bikram yoga class (Bikram yoga Brisbane) Rowena Jayne taught the class. I had heard of it by people mentioning it but I new nothing of what it is. As soon as I did the first pranayama exercise my lungs filled up, my elbows went up and my head dropped back. My neck and upper spine popped loudly. I could tell this yoga worked, that it does exactly what people says it will do and it would make a massive difference to the condition of my spine. I spent most of the rest of the class on my back. I kept practicing 3-7days a week developing every class at Bikram yoga the Gabba with Ben and Maddy in Brisbane Australia. Within 13 months I entered the 2011/2012 Bishnu ghosh Australian national yoga asana championships. I came third. Within 19 months I was competing in the 2011/2012 Bishnu ghosh international yoga asana championships. I got the opportunity via the Australian second placer being unable to attend. I jumped at the opportunity. I placed 20th. Sunday 16th September I placed 2nd in the 2012/2013 Bishnu ghosh Queensland regional yoga asana championships. I then went on to place 2nd in the 2012/2013 Bishnu ghosh Australian national yoga asana championships which where held on Sunday 10th February 2013 in Melbourne Australia. I will be representing Australia for the second time at the 2013/2013 Bishnu Ghosh international yoga asana championships being held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of June 7,8 & 9 In Los Angeles. I'm a now leaving to Los Angeles to do the Bikram yoga teacher training on Sunday April 14. I will be back in Australia on Tuesday 18 June. Having completed the Bikram yoga teacher training programme and representing Australia in the international yoga competition to teach at the Bikram yoga studio in Salisbury, Southside Brisbane and prepare for the 2013/2014 Queensland yoga asana regional championships happening in September 2013. Within two years of consistent practise I've healed my spine, created the possibility of being a yoga world champion and highly powerfull and effective yoga instructor. All this is has happened by Bikram yogas sequence and my commitment to contribute and make a difference in the world and heal my spine.
